Travertine Slab, Travertine Tile and Special Considerations

Travertine countertops are available in 2 cm and 3 cm slabs as well as the full range of tile sizes from 1-inch mosaic tile up to large 24-inch floor tile.
Travertine is a crystalized limestone and therefore big machines (and skilled pros) can polish Travertine to a mirror-finish, which really brings out the depth of it's color and looks gorgeous.
However, Travertine polishing is only recommended for counter tops that are lightly used such as a powder bath, tabletop, pass bar or furniture piece, but NOT for kitchen countertops or the wet bar.

Etching

Destroys the polish leaving a dull, light spot. You'll get these dull spots all over with Travertine countertops in the kitchen. Also, Travertine is softer and more prone to scratching than granite.
Polished Travertine is very stain resistant, but still not good for kitchens due to etching. Sealing does not prevent etching.

Natural Beauty

So if you love the look of Travertine and insist on installing Travertine counter tops in your kitchen, a honed finish is usually a better choice. And always use coasters, cutting boards and trivets to protect against spills and scratches.
Travertine Care. You'll find more information about Travertine care and how to avoid expensive Travertine restoration at the cleaning Travertine page. Also, it's worth noting that traditionally Travertine is left to age naturally letting friends and family rub "life" into the stone--stains and all.

Natural Aging

Over the years Travertine stains and etching may occur gradually changing the color and tone to reflect the essential character of your home. This is especially true of Travertine tile floors, which become more beautiful with age and use.
It's hard to resist the quintessential beauty and the feelings of warm opulence that Travertine conveys to any room. Travertine counter tops and Travertine flooring will add immeasurable value and years of pleasure to your home.

More Ideas

Travertino is also good for various landscape to decorate your home and garden , because of its' special natural veins and small holes .

Landscaping Designs with Stone That Can Make the House Look its Best

When you have a house, you need the exterior to look just as beautiful as the inside. That is why you see tons of people on the weekends planting tons of plants and trying their best to make their yards look awesome. but, the only problem is the fact that plenty of the great ideas for landscaping have previously been performed. Obviously, there is one thing that people tend to overlook about whenever it comes to landscaping, and it really is one of the best things to work with, and that is stone. Landscaping stone ideas can, not only give your yard a feel all of its own, however at the same time, it will give your yard a fresh feel. There are so lots of various things which you can do with stone, it's amazing that more people don't utilize it. The choices are endless, and that stone is a best way to make every yard different.

To start with, you need to understand that stones, not only provide a great walk way, but they make a good patio. Whenever people are using stones around their house, the main thing that they generally do is utilize it for a walk way. Sure it's a great thought, but it's been played out to death. It's time to come up with a fresh thought. Instead of just using it for a pathway, utilize it to build the ground of your patio. They make very flat stones that are ideal to be used as a floor. This will give your patio a very classy, yet, very outdoor feel. Another idea you may need to consider about using is using the stones to make levels to your floors. What you do is put down stones to build a wall (not a big wall, but a small one). Then behind the wall you fill it with dirt. Then you set your flowers. Behind those flowers you craft another wall, but this time you build it a bit bigger. Then you fill that with dirt and you replicate as several times as you desire.

The finest idea for stones, however, is to use them when making a pond in your plot. This is really simple to do, and just about anyone can perform it over the course of just one weekend. Not only that, but the stones close to it are going to give it an amazing look. If you attach a little pump to the pond to make the pond have moving water, then it will keep things such as mosquitoes out of it. There is no end to the amount of things that you can accomplish with stones in your yard. The grand news is that the majority of it can be done in a day, and stones (for the most part) make no cost that much to work with.

Cleaning and Caring for Travertine Floors, Walls or Countertops

Travertine is one of the most beautiful materials used today to make countertops, tabletops, fireplace mantles and floors. With a wide variety of colors, sizes and shapes of Travertine tile available it is possible to match any decor and add classic, timeless beauty to any room in your home.

Travertine is used more frequently in bathrooms than kitchens and is often used on the walls, floors, vanities or shelves. The first and most important step in caring for your Travertine is to be sure that it is sealed with a high quality sealer specifically designed for Travertine. This will help to prevent some stains and will make cleaning your Travertine a bit easier and more effective.
Travertine can be scratched by grit so it is important not to use an abrasive cleaner when cleaning your granite. Instead, try using liquid dish soap and warm water. Rinse the soapy water and then dry the Travertine with a soft towel. Acidic cleaners are a definite no-no with Travertine since they can eat into the Travertine and cause damage. This includes even mild acids like vinegar or lemon juice, both of which can cause permanent damage to your Travertine.
If you have tougher stains on your Travertine that cannot be removed with dish soap and water, you can try using a Travertine polishing powder. These powders are available at most hardware and home improvement stores and come with complete instructions on how to use them to clean your Travertine.
If you have a particularly tough stain that won't come out with the soapy water or the polishing powder, your best bet would probably be to call a professional Travertine cleaner or restorer to tackle the job for you rather than risk further damaging your Travertine by trying something on your own
The best way to care for your Travertine is by using precautions to prevent stains and scratching before they happen. Because Travertine is porous and will absorb moisture, always be sure to immediately wipe up any spills. Use a high quality Travertine sealer, and reseal as needed to be sure that your Travertine remains protected and beautiful.
Travertine is higher maintenance than many other natural stones, however, it has a beauty, elegance and class that can make the extra maintenance seem very worthwhile.
